Defensive Value

Usually abbreviated as 'DV', a creature's defensive value represents how hard it is to hit with physical attacks. If the attack power of a physical attack fails to equal or exceed the target's DV it will miss.

Creatures have a base DV of 10, which is modified by race (hurthlings get +1, trolls get -1), dexterity (the modifier is simply added to DV), items with [+x, +y] (x is added to DV and may be negative), rings of defense (the modifier of the ring is added to DV), the dodge skill, and levels in the warrior monk/nun, thief, and fighter classes. High speed can also slightly increase DV.
